Equipment

  • Skillet
  • tongs

Ingredients

For the Pasta

  • 8 oz spaghetti Feel free to substitute with linguine, fettuccine, or bucatini based on your preference!
  • ½ cup reserved pasta water This starchy water helps to create a silky sauce that clings beautifully to the pasta.

For the Sauce

  • 4 tablespoon unsalted butter This adds a rich, creamy base that complements the zesty flavors.
  • 4 tablespoon olive oil A drizzle extra for tossing keeps your pasta from sticking together post-cooking.
  • 6–8 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic brings a robust flavor that enhances the dish.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning A wonderful blend that harmonizes with the lemon and garlic.
  • 2 lemons zest Adds an aromatic zing to the dish, boosting that fresh lemon flavor.
  • 1 lemon juice This is essential for that bright, tangy balance in your Italian Lemon Garlic Pasta.

For the Garnish

  • cup fresh parsley, chopped Brightens up the dish visually and adds a fresh note.
  • Kosher salt Essential for enhancing the flavors; adjust to your taste!
  • Freshly cracked black pepper This adds a bit of heat and depth to each bite.
  • Grated Parmesan cheese A must for adding a savory finish!
  • Crushed red pepper flakes Add this for a kick of heat if you like!

Instructions

Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Start by bringing a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil over high heat. Add the spaghetti and cook until al dente, about 8–10 minutes. Reserve ½ cup of the pasta water, then drain the pasta. Toss with olive oil to prevent sticking and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, heat unsalted butter and olive oil over medium-low heat. Once the butter has melted and begins to bubble, add minced garlic. Sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant and lightly golden, being careful not to burn.
  • Sprinkle in Italian seasoning and add lemon zest to the skillet. Stir for about 30 seconds, allowing the spices and zest to toast and release their vibrant aromas.
  • Pour in the juice of 1 lemon and allow the mixture to simmer for 1–2 minutes, stirring to blend the flavors.
  • Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet, using tongs to toss and coat each noodle with the sauce. Gradually introduce the reserved pasta water, stirring constantly to achieve a creamy sauce.
  • Remove from heat and fold in freshly chopped parsley. Season with kosher salt and black pepper to taste.
  • Plate the pasta and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese. Add crushed red pepper flakes if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

Store leftover pasta in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge. For longer storage, freeze the pasta for up to 2 months. Best enjoyed freshly made!
