  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter can substitute with coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup diced, peeled apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk adjust for desired thickness
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation Steps

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  • Fold the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, combining until just mixed.
  • Gently fold in the diced apples into the batter.
  • Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions and grease it lightly.
  • Spoon the batter into the preheated waffle iron, using about ¼ cup of batter for each donut.
  • Cook for about 3 to 4 minutes or until the waffles are golden brown and crisp.
  • While the donuts are cooking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth to prepare the glaze.
  • Once cooked, remove gently from the waffle iron and drizzle the glaze over the warm donuts.

Notes

For the best flavor balance, use tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. Adjust the glaze thickness by gradually adding milk for desired consistency.
