Ingredients
  

For the Pasta

  • 250 g pasta (penne or farfalle) Choose penne or farfalle for the best texture.

For the Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Provides a rich base flavor when sautéing.
  • 1 medium orange Zest and juice combine to offer a refreshing citrus kick.
  • 3 cloves garlic Minced garlic adds aromatic depth to the sauce.
  • 100 ml heavy cream Ensures a luscious, creamy consistency.
  • 150 g cheddar cheese The star cheese, melty and delicious.
  • 50 g Parmesan cheese Adds a nutty flavor that complements the cheddar.
  • salt Essential for seasoning.
  • pepper Essential for seasoning.

For Garnish

  • fresh basil leaves (optional) Brightens up the dish.
  • grated orange zest (optional) Enhances the orange flavor profile.

Steps to Create Cheesy Orange Pasta

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add 250 g of pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and reserve ¼ cup of cooking water.
  • In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add 3 cloves of minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in the juice and zest of 1 medium orange into the skillet with the garlic. Stir and simmer for around 2 minutes.
  • Slowly pour in 100 ml of heavy cream, stirring constantly. Simmer for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Gradually add 150 g of grated cheddar and 50 g of grated Parmesan cheese, stirring until melted and smooth.
  • Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add the drained pasta to the skillet and toss gently to coat. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water as needed.
  • Transfer to serving bowls and garnish with fresh basil leaves and grated orange zest if desired.
