Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Thinly slice the 4-5 medium potatoes to about ¼-inch thickness.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet. Sauté 1 chopped onion and 2 minced garlic cloves until fragrant.
  • Add 1 pound of ground beef, season with 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning, ½ teaspoon of paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Grease a baking dish and layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom, followed by half of the beef mixture and half of the cheddar cheese. Repeat layers.
  • Pour ½ cup of beef broth over the layers and add the optional ¼ cup of milk if desired. Cover with foil and bake for 35-40 minutes.
  • Remove foil, sprinkle ½ cup of grated Parmesan cheese on top, and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes.
  • Let it rest for about 5 minutes, then garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

Slicing potatoes evenly ensures uniform cooking. Browning the beef adds flavor depth.
