Instructions

Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat for about 2 minutes until hot. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Let it brown undisturbed for 3–5 minutes until it develops a deep brown crust, then stir lightly. Remove the beef from the skillet.
  • In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon of butter along with the diced onion and bell pepper. Sauté for 1–2 minutes until the vegetables start to soften, then stir and allow them to cook for another 1–2 minutes, until they’re golden and fragrant.
  • Carefully remove any excess grease from the skillet. Return the browned ground beef to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables, ensuring they are combined well.
  • In a small measuring cup, whisk together 1 cup of beef broth and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch until smooth. Then, add in 2 tablespoons of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, ½ teaspoon of kosher salt, and ½ teaspoon of black pepper.
  • Pour the beef broth mixture into the skillet with the meat and vegetables. Stir everything together, and cook on medium heat for about 3–5 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
  • Once the mixture has thickened, turn off the heat and sprinkle the cheese over the meat filling. Stir gently until the cheese melts.
  • In a separate pan, heat a small amount of butter over medium-high heat. Add the brioche hamburger buns and toast them for about 2-3 minutes until golden and crispy.
  • Spoon generous portions of the cheesy beef mixture onto the toasted buns. Serve warm and enjoy!
