Cooking Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and prepare a baking dish with nonstick spray.
  • Cook the breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat for 8 to 10 minutes, break it up as it cooks.
  • In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and baking powder, whisking well.
  • Add buttermilk to the dry mixture, stirring gently until a sticky dough forms. Fold in cheese and cooked sausage.
  • Pour melted butter into the bottom of the baking dish, covering it evenly.
  • Scoop dough on top of the butter, cut into 9 squares for easy serving.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, rotating halfway through until golden brown.
  • Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
