Step-by-Step Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
  • With slightly wet hands, form the mixture into four oval patties, each about 1 inch thick.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and add olive oil. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side.
  • Remove patties from the skillet. In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and onion, sauté until tender.
  • Pour in beef broth and a splash of Worcestershire sauce. Stir and let simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  • Mix cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry. Gradually whisk into the gravy and stir until thick.
  • Return cooked patties to the skillet, simmer in gravy for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Plate Salisbury steak, spoon gravy over each patty and serve with sides like mashed potatoes.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge. For longer storage, freeze individual portions for up to 2 months.
